Lawrence Antonio Borom was pronounced dead inside Roxbury Correctional Institution in Hagerstown after being found unresponsive by correctional officers, according to Maryland State Police.
Investigators say they have already identified a suspect—another inmate at the facility.
The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services contacted the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, after Borom was discovered lying on the floor with severe head trauma, officials said.
Emergency medical services responded, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, working alongside crime scene technicians and the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services’ Internal Investigative Unit.
Authorities have not released details on how Borom sustained the fatal injuries or the identity of the suspected inmate involved.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
